Small Town On The Arkansas River In Bighorn Sheep Canyon (Fremont County)
Wellsville, Colorado
August 3, 2011 - Bill Oliver and I went for a drive into Bighorn Sheep Canyon and Fremont County.
We ended up in the small and historic town of Wellsville, Colorado. Although most drive by without noticing the
few homes and rock quarry that comprise of Wellsville, it appeared this town was once a much more
bustling railroad town.
Of course, the Arkansas River runs through and this is a popular spot for whitewater rafting, kayaking, camping
and fly fishing. Below are my five photos of Wellsville and a video at the bottom of the page. We had a good time! :)

Parked on the edge of Highway 50. Bighorn Sheep Canyon is a very scenic canyon between Canon City and
Salida.
Such a beautiful shot of the Arkansas River. Many of the common
whitewater rafting runs happen more down river toward Texas Creek and the Royal Gorge,
but it's still common to see private boaters on this section of river.
Also, it's rare that I don't see at least a few fly fishers in the river during the non-winter months.

Beautiful rock walls as we drove on Highway 50 east toward Wellsville.
