Lost Lake At Cottonwood Pass
Hike To A High Elevation Lake Near The Continental Divide In Chaffee County, CO
Lost Lake is south of Cottonwood Pass on the east side of the Continental Divide.
From where the trail begins on Chaffee County Road 306 (there is a small parking pullout, just below timberline),
it took me a mere 40 minutes hiking at a relaxed pace to reach the lake.
A good topographical map will probably show an old jeep trail that serves as the trail for part of the way. During the summer,
it is common see campers, fishermen and even tubers.
There's an island in the middle. Can you get there? How daring are you? :)

August 5, 2014 - I made time for an afternoon hike to Lost Lake. Here are my three best images.
In general, I am a proud Coloradan who shuns hiking to lakes, passes and other low points.
"If I don't gain a mountain's summit,
then I didn't succeed." Well, today I put that rule to rest.
Lost Lake is a really pretty place.
|Mountain scenery abounds along the trail.
TOP: Facing Jones Mountain (elevation 13221 feet).
SECOND: The beautiful view of "Piece of Garbage Mountain" (left) and Turner Peak (right).
Friends and I climbed that 13er last week.
|The lighting was perfect for photographing flowers.
The middle image is a columbine, the state flower of Colorado.
