INDEPENDENCE PASS SUNSET! Colorado Photos At The Continental Divide - August 13, 2006
Independence Pass
Independence Pass
I returned back to Independence Pass on Sunday evening and was not disappointed with the sunset's color show!
Independence Pass Independence Pass sits at 12,095 feet above sea level and is part of Colorado's continental divide. It seperates the towns of Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale (west) from Twin Lakes and Leadville (east). Highway 82 at Independence Pass is only open for vehicular traffic from approximately Memorial Day weekend to the first snowfall in late October.

To the south, I snapped two photos of some beautiful pink clouds! :)

  • Cottonwood Pass (May 2006)
  • Independence Pass (August 10, 2006)
  • One Last Burst Of Sunlight Hits Independence Pass ...

Before things got exciting, the sun sent out one last burst from the west which provided some very strong horizontal light that was great to photographing things facing east (bottom sign).

My other Independence Pass region photos:
  • Snow at Independence Pass
  • Hike To "First Peak"
  • Independence Lake
  • Independence Ghost Town
  • Roadtrip To Aspen
  • Redstone
  • Independence Pass Independence Pass has many tundra pools like this one.

The sunlight reflects on that unnamed peak on the Lake County side.
Deer On the way back home, I snapped this photo of a deer on the roadside. ;)
