EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO! Pictures Of My Drive In The Rocky Mountains - May 13, 2006

Eagle County, Colorado After realizing the Mayflower Gulch Trail was still packed with snow and wouldn't be much fun to hike, I wound up driving all around Eagle County, Colorado. I really did not have any particularly destination, but just seemed to drive from town to town and took pictures as I felt led to. Eagle County is the home of Vail, Avon, Beaver Creek and some very popular ski resorts in the state.
Vail, Colorado Here is my one shot of Vail. It's not much. While driving westbound on Interstate 70, I snapped this shot in East Vail.
Eagle County, Colorado I drove through Vail, Avon and Edwards, and I eventually wound up in Eagle, the county seat for Eagle County. Ah, but I still felt kind of "antsy" in the car and didn't know what to do or where to go, so I drove back towards Vail. Here's a shot heading back on I-70 east.
Rocky Mountains I stopped at the scenic overlook in Edwards. I have no idea which mountains these are. If you happen to know, please inform me on the Friendship Board and I'll edit this caption! :)
Avon, Colorado I must confess this is a lazy shot. I rolled down the passenger side window and snapped this shot of Avon. Now Avon is a very attractive little ski town. Real estate is a little less pricey compared to Vail and as you can see, they've got a golf course for your enjoyment when it ain't ski season. ;) I spent New Year's Eve 2000 in Avon at a friend's place - I'll always remember that.
Grouse Creek Trail I headed towards Minturn and walked a short bit up the Grouse Creek Trail. I'll have to return to this place at some point!
Minturn, Colorado Inside the town of Minturn.
Eagle County, Colorado As I headed up Tennessee Pass, which is part of the Continental Divide, the highway ran right along the Eagle River. I love this photo!
Eagle County, Colorado Climbing up Tennessee Pass, I stopped at this overlook. Man, it looks much more stunning in person! :p)

Here are some of my other pages from this region:
  • Summit County, Tennessee Pass, Vail Pass
  • Fremont Pass (January), Fremont Pass (May)
  • Georgetown, Leadville, Leadville's Mountains
  • Central City, Interstate 70, Breckenridge
  • Eagle County, Colorado Continuing up, the Eagle River runs through a rather impressive gorge with beautiful Rocky Mountain scenery!
Tennessee Pass One last photo of the end of Eagle County ... at the Tennessee Pass sign. It was an enjoyable ride in the mountains!
