May 30, 2006 - From Buena Vista, I traveled toward Cottonwood Pass
at about 7 p.m. with plans to photograph the
sunset that would be happening around 8:20 p.m.
With time to kill, I slowly wandered up the canyon and spend time in a pretty
aspen grove.
Even when their leaves are green,
there is something wonderful about the
aspens of Colorado, isn't there?
At Cottonwood Pass (elevation 12,126 feet), I waited for the "sunset show"
to begin. This reminded me of the anticipation one might experience before
a Fourth of July fireworks show! :)
The sunset began to have some flair at 8:05 p.m. I like this shot of the sign,
which read Leaving Chaffee County.

Two magical sunset images over the mountains. Love it!
It's so wonderful to see all that
snow remaining. Memorial Day weekend is
commonly considered the beginning of summer, but Colorado's mountains go by their own seasonal clock. The
temperature was only about 20 degrees and the winds made it feel colder.
