Colorado 14ers

Mountains over 14,000+ feet in elevation ...

As someone who has spent a lot of time in the mountains, I can say nothing beats being at 14,000 feet in elevation. The vistas are stunning. There aren't words in the English language to describe the beauty from the highest mountains of Colorado.

As of writing this (September 2012), I've climbed 20 14ers with another six repeat hikes and one climb of an unranked 14er. Although my hike pages usually have directions and trail information, I suggest having a detailed topographical map and reviewing the latest trailhead information at 14ers.com.

Mount Harvard Colorado Mount Harvard - Tom and I hike the standard route from the North Cottonwood Creek Trailhead and Horn Fork Basin.

Mount Princeton Colorado Mount Princeton - I've climbed this mountain three times, all via the standard route, Mt. Princeton Road. This latest outing was with Dale Dawson.

Previous hikes:

  • Second Climb
  • First Climb
  • Mount Antero Mount Antero - Located in the Sawatch Range, west of Nathrop. Admittedly, this was not the greatest climb, as we drove quite a way up Baldwin Gulch Road.
Mount Yale Colorado Mount Yale - Just a delightful 14er in the Sawatch Range that's west of Buena Vista. I've climbed this mountain twice; photos from both hikes are included.
Mount Belford Mount Belford - A decent hike in northern Chaffee County. My climb was via the standard route, the Missouri Gulch Trail.
La Plata Peak Colorado La Plata Peak - An excellent 14er. A more challenging walk-up hike with great summit views.
Mount Elbert Mount Elbert - It gets a lot of visitors because of its notoriety as the highest point in Colorado.
Mount Massive - One of those 14ers that begs to be climbed when you're driving on U.S. Highway 24 in Leadville.
Huron Peak Huron Peak - Generally considered a more scenic hike in the Sawatch Range. The standard route is accessed up the canyon from Winfield.
Barr Trail Pikes Peak Pikes Peak - My very first 14er climb via Barr Trail.

Of course, Pikes Peak can also be driven up. I have a page for the Pikes Peak Highway too. :)

Mount Bierstadt Mount Bierstadt - My climb of Mount Bierstadt with Phil Ladden. This 14er is considered to be comparatively easy from the standard route that begins at Guanella Pass.
West Evans Mount Evans - My climb from Guanella Pass, up that crazy steep gully and to the summit.

This is the other 14er you can access via car on the Mount Evans Scenic Byway.

Quandary Peak Quandary Peak - Quandary Peak, located near Hoosier Pass and Breckenridge.
Mount Sherman Mount Sherman - I've been on the summit of Mount Sherman four times. This one was my third time in June 2010.

UPDATE: Bill Rogan and I hiked Mt. Sherman in 2014.

    Previous hikes:

  • Gemini Peak and White Ridge
  • First Hike
  • Mount Sneffels Mount Sneffels - My only climb in the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado.
South Elbert - It doesn't officially count as a 14er, but I did summit the mountain via the Black Cloud Trail.
Mount Democrat Hike Mount Democrat, Mount Lincoln, Mount Bross - From the trailhead at Kite Lake, many hikers do a loop to reach the summit of all three 14ers in one day.

ALSO: Another hike of Mount Democrat with Mike Vernon in 2014.

Grays Peak and Torreys Peak - Another combo 14er climb. Most commonly accessed via Stevens Gulch between the Eisenhower Tunnel and Georgetown, CO.
Mount Shavano Mount Shavano - Confession: I have not climbed this mountain, but I already created a page for when I do. :)
